is actually both
true and false, but more false than true. The
participant observer is primarily
interested in observing and
recording the behavior of others. This can be done
in a natural
unconstrained manner, or in a more carefully planned
(constrained)
manner. In the latter (more like a case study),
the observer must record his or
her own behavior in order to
understand the other persons’ behavior. In that
case, the
observer’s behavior is not the main point of the research,
but it
still needs to be observed and recorded.
