There are several types of surveys. Some are limited
in scope to identifying
and describing variables, such
as people’s opinions on subjects. But other
surveys can
build in much more constrained procedures and questions,
and gather
data that illuminate the relationships among variables.
For example, we can use
surveys to study the relationships
among religious or political beliefs and
child-rearing ideas.
