The concept of evolution, both biological and geological,
was a very early
development. It was not, however, until the
Wallace-Darwin model in the mid
1800s that sufficient empirical
data made it possible to develop a full theory
of biological
evolution, that is, the origin of species through natural
selection.

history
section on this website.
