Reifying a construct means treating a construct as a fact
without proper
skepticism. As scientists, we need to keep
clear what are verified facts derived
from empirical
observations and what are constructs that are created
by the
researcher but are never directly observed. Reifying
a construct is sloppy
thinking in that we are failing to realize the
tentative nature of a construct,
giving it more credence than it deserves.
