Remember that good research can be carried out at
any level of constraint.
The higher the constraint level,
the more control we have and generally the
greater is our
confidence in the results. Also, when we need to test causal
hypotheses, we need to go to the highest constraint level, experimentation.
But
all of it, from naturalistic observation to experimentation, is scientific.
