Well, this is a little ambiguous. The concept of generalizability
refers to
the application of results to persons, times, places,
and conditions beyond
those in the research. When we
study one specific individual, we cannot
generalize to a
whole population (other persons), but we may be interested
in
generalizing over time, and perhaps to other situations. That is,
we may be
interested in knowing whether the results will hold up
over time and for other
settings. Nevertheless, it would be too
strong a statement to say that
generalizability is a central issue
in studying a single person.
