mean. When the pretest measures are unusually high
(or unusually low) and the posttest measures are
significantly lower (or significantly higher) we may
be tempted to conclude that the significant change was
due to our manipulation when it might have been due simply
to the measures returning in a natural fashion to their normal levels.
