Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802) was an English physiologist, practicing physician, and poet. In one of his prose works, Zoonomia (1795), and in a long poem, Botanic Garden (1789), he reveals his interests in natural science. Both works were literary and not scientific, but in Zoonomia, Darwin anticipated some of the evolutionary principles of Lamarck. Erasmus Darwin was the grandfather of Charles Darwin.
