Manipulation Check
A manipulation check is designed to verify the the independent variable manipulation had the intended effect. For example, if one group is to be anxious and another not anxious, one should measure the level of anxiety to be sure that the groups actually differed on anxiety. There may be more than one manipulation check, just like there may be more than one dependent variable. To evaluate the manipulation check, identify the type of data created by the manipulation check variable or variables.
